What: Grant funding from the Sempra Energy Foundation to the non-profit organization in the amount of $5,000 When: Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009, Noon (12 p.m.)–the media is welcome to arrive at 11:30 a.m. for interviews. Where: At Carol’s Kitchen in Cabazon: Cabazon Community Center 50390 Carmen Ave., corner of Broadway and Carmen Cabazon, CA 92230 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. Why: The funding awarded to Carol’s Kitchen aligns with the “Helping People in Need” initiative, which represents the ongoing commitment by the Sempra Energy Foundation and the Sempra Energy family of companies to assist families in need. Carol’s Kitchen currently serves 3,000 meals a week at seven kitchens, Monday through Friday, in Beaumont, Banning and Cabazon. The attendance has been on the rise since the start of the U.S. economic recession, with Carol’s Kitchen numbers growing by 40 percent in 2008. In Cabazon, about 28.9 percent of families live below the poverty level, according to the Census Designated Place Program. About Carol's Kitchen, Inc. Carol's Kitchen is a Southern California-based non-profit organization located in the San Gorgonio Pass. Since 1998, the organization has served more than 500,000 hot meals to the hungry and currently serves about 3,000 meals per week.
